HDMI 2.2 is the latest evolution in high-definition connectivity and was announced at CES in January 2025. It’s designed to support the growing demands of home cinema and gaming. With a massive boost in bandwidth, improved audio-video sync, and support for ultra-high resolutions, HDMI 2.2 is set to redefine how we experience sound and picture quality.
While HDMI 2.2-compatible products aren’t available just yet, they’re on the horizon—and we’ll be stocking them as soon as they arrive.
What is HDMI 2.2?

HDMI 2.2 is the newest standard in the HDMI family, doubling the bandwidth of HDMI 2.1 to 96Gbps. This increased data capacity enables:
• Higher resolutions: Supports 8K at 240Hz, 10K at 120Hz, and potential future 12K displays.
• Smoother gaming: Higher frame rates and lower latency for next-gen consoles and high-end PCs.
• Better audio sync: A new Latency Indication Protocol (LIP) reduces sound delay for a seamless experience.
With these upgrades, HDMI 2.2 ensures that home entertainment systems are future-proofed for upcoming advancements in display and audio technology.

Do You Need a New Cable?
Once 2.2 products hit the market and you want to unlock the full potential of HDMI 2.2 then yes! You’ll need an Ultra96-certified HDMI 2.2 cable. While older cables may still work with HDMI 2.2 devices, they won’t support the highest resolutions, refresh rates, or the improved audio sync.

When Will HDMI 2.2 Products Be Available?
Currently, no TVs, AV receivers, or gaming consoles support HDMI 2.2, but leading brands like Sony, LG, and Denon are expected to roll out compatible models, likely in 2026. As these products launch, Peter Tyson will be among the first to stock them—so if you’re looking to upgrade, stay tuned!
Should You Upgrade Now or Wait?
The short answer right now (at time of publishing) is no, as you can’t currently buy anything that supports 2.2. 2.1 was announced way back in November 2017 and took several years to permeate into the market place, so don’t expect to see 2.2 on the shelves any time soon.
