What’s the difference between Standard and Katalyst? Audio quality. Linn’s Standard DAC (digital to analogue converter) is excellent, it has featured in Linn products for years… but Katalyst is better. It converts digital information (the music) more accurately, resulting in demonstrably superior audio. And in future if you want to go one better, you can upgrade to Linn’s reference and completely home-grown DAC, Organik.
These Selekt DSMs are the best you can buy at this level. Selekt is miles better than Linn’s excellent Majik DSM (£3,380), it outperforms any one-box system we’ve heard from other manufacturers and is upgradeable with a range of Linn cartridges, offering additional features like surround sound or performance improvements such as Organik DAC or Edition Hub (machined Aluminium case).
